Condylography
(axiography)
Accurate recording of jaw movements
of the temporomandibular joint

At the medical center "Estetik Dental", various diagnostic methods are available, including modern condylography (axiography) diagnostics with high accuracy and the ability to evaluate even complex and challenging cases of disorders.

Condylography (axiography) is performed to record movements in the temporomandibular joint while performing various functions, for example, swallowing or chewing. It is known that the structure of the maxillofacial system has a number of individual characteristics; therefore, joint movements are unique by nature, and in cases of prosthetic treatment or correction these features must be taken into account.

When
condylography (axiography) is needed:

• Diagnosis of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pathology

• When planning treatment for TMJ dysfunction

• Before planned maxillofacial procedures

• When preparing for prosthetic treatment

• Orthodontic treatment planning

• Dynamic monitoring during treatment of TMJ pathology

Condylography (axiography) – is a modern diagnostic method in dentistry that allows you, more thoroughly than other methods, to select the type of prosthetic treatment or to draw up a plan for future orthodontic treatment, and to identify the causes of functional disorders in the temporomandibular joint.

This examination is indispensable for high-quality prosthetic treatment because it provides data on lower jaw movements in different planes. The information obtained is transferred to an articulator, which is used to model dental prostheses.

Diagnostic stages

  1. First, the doctor performs an examination with an oral inspection. This is necessary to determine the severity of changes and the need for correction.
  2. As a rule, this type of examination does not require special preparation. In addition, axiography is a completely painless procedure, but in some cases discomfort is possible due to an excess of impression material in the mouth. Therefore, it is recommended to undergo this type of diagnostics on an empty stomach.
  3. A special tray with impression material is fixed on the lower jaw. An upper bow is placed on the patient's head, and special sensors are attached to the lateral surface. At the specialist's command, the patient moves the jaw in different planes. The obtained data are transferred to a computer.
  4. The stage during which the obtained data are processed, followed by analysis by specialists. The data are saved for further monitoring of treatment.
