Dental implantology.
General information and rules for choosing a clinic

Implantology is considered to be a new trend in dentistry, but the history of its development lasts longer than 60 years , when in the 1950 's Swedish scientist Per- Ingwar Branemark began studying and developing materials which do not interact with the tissues of the oral cavity and introduced a concept of "osteointegration”.

Modern implantology has a great clinical evidence base of using different methods and materials, which enabled it to become leading among the other areas of prosthetics for today. This is kind of a Hi -TECH not only in dentistry, but in general in medicine , put on the commercial track and gained mass scale application.

But it for sure does not mean that there are now trends for primitivism and simplification . To the contrary, for the provision of services in the field of implantology dental clinic should at least have the appropriate clinical base with a high level of equipment and diagnostic facilities. Today, implantology is a kind of symbiosis between diagnostic and instrumental capabilities, qualitatively combined with a list of high qualificated experts.

During the process of preparation and implantation itself, physicians and technologists in different directions participate. At the same time only while sticking to the team approach they can achieve perfection and get a quality result. Also an important element in implantology is the planning process and strict adherence to all stages of work.

It is these stringent requirements that for a long time did not allow stomatological implantation to become one of the leading in providing dental services. Earlier in dentistry, a personal approach was in practice, when a patient was treated by one doctor, who due to many reasons wasn’t able to solve issues of implantation on his own.

At some point, implantation began to be perceived as a fairly simple procedure that can solve all problems . Of course, this is a wrong approach . Like any other treatment procedure , implantation has its favorable factors and contraindications . And only the observance of strict rules in the preparation and conduct of the different stages of implantation can lead to the positive result.

Today, thanks to the development of clinical dentistry, there has been a revolution in approaches to treatment and aesthetic correction . Therefore, dental clinics , which see their future and plan further development , offer new principles of medical services . The development of dental equipment and reduction of the cost of dental materials for implantation influenced this a lot.

First of all the dentist tries to keep inherent tissues and organs of the oral cavity, and only in case of inability to provide it due to their destruction or aesthetical unattractiveness, the patient is offered implantation.

Despite the study of the implantation process and its predictability in terms of results - this intervention remains an operation with all the advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, in these circumstances the correct choice of dental clinics in terms of implantation takes decisive importance.

But how does a person who is not versed in all the subtleties of dentistry choose a clinic? For this it is required to take into account several aspects:

  • experience of specialists (surgeon , orthodontist, dental technician)
  • high level of equipment of the clinic
  • quality of implants and basic adherence to all stages ,which the patient must be warned about in advance

The patient must be confident that in case of problems happening he won’t need to cope with them on his own. Finally , when choosing a clinic the client should pay attention to its priorities. The patient should not be a passive participant in the process , but, on the contrary, take an active part in it and make decisions together with doctors.
